If I understand correctly, Google is saying that they will install a Gigabit fiber-to-the-door network in selected cities. All you have to do is nominate your city and get your city council, county government, etc. to contact Google to pave the way for conduit permits, etc. I can see this bringing a lot of jobs to a selected city. Google is saying that they are in the process of considering an experimental Gigabit Internet service directly to the door, if I understand correctly, for a limited number of customers. Juxtapose this with Verizon's FIOS which is less than or equal to 12 MBit fiber-to-the-door (less where the fiber is shared in condominium communities). Moreover, they're willing to work cooperatively with other Internet Service Providers to improve their service as well.
